Mark your calendars for the January 11th meeting of City Club of Florence when the keynote speaker will be Dina Pavlis who will share about the history, geology, topography, wildlife of the Oregon dunes as well as current threats facing the dunal ecosystem. For more than twenty years, Pavlis has served as a U.S. Forest Service volunteer interpretive ranger of the Oregon dunes on Oregon’s central coast. She has been featured on Oregon Public Broadcasting's "Think Out Loud" and NPR's "Oregon Grapevine. We will be pulling broom for approximately an hour, then there will be a guided hike from 11 to 12:15 led by local author and dunes interpretative guide, Dina Pavlis! Join the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative at the John Dellenback Dunes Trailhead to remove Scotch broom at the Umpqua Dunes on Saturday, August 24 from 10 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are needed to continue our efforts to remove invasive Scotch broom from one of our "Protect the Best" sites. It is approximately 0.4 miles uphill on the trail to the worksite.
